WHY Debrand ?

Fix the bug in the old N70 firmware. It's reported firmware 2.05.37 & 2.05.39 has a bug / problem in the bluetooth connection between the phone and GPS , TOMTOM & Route66. With firmware 3.05.46, with the prove from the customers, I can confirm this problem is FIXED!

THREE - With the generic N70 firmware, you can have the option to choose between DUAL MODE or GSM only under the network menu. Therefore, in some area where THREE has a BAD coverage, it will be good to choose as GSM only (2G) so that O2 network will be used rather than THREE (3G).

Vodafone - With the generic N70 firmware, it removed the MP3 restriction proposed by vodafone into the phone.?Moreover, the generic menu is much nicer than the vodafone menu.

All vodafone live shortcut, WAP, MMS or GPRS settings will be removed

Orange - With N70 firmware, part of the wallpaper was blocked by the ORANGE shortcut bar, with the generic firmware, the shortcut bar will be removed

All Orange World shortcut, WAP, MMS or GPRS settings will be removed

We use the VERY latest Nokia generic firmware, so we will upgrade the Nokia N70 software during the debranding.

GENERIC Nokia 6680 vs Orange Nokia 6680

WHY Debrand / Unbrand ??

THREE? With the generic Nokia 6680 firmware, you can have the option to choose between DUAL MODE or GSM only under the network menu. Therefore, in some area where THREE has a BAD coverage, it will be good to choose as GSM only (2G) so that O2 network will be used rather than THREE (3G).

DUAL Mode (GSM 900 / 1800) was enabled in the debranded firmware

GSM 900 / 1800 in a THREE sim (use O2 coverage with your 3 sim)

What will happen if we choose GSM 900/ 1800 in the network band ?

 - It will turn into O2-UK networks.

Why?

 - It's because THREE borrows their 2g (GSM 900 / 1800) networks from O2, so if you choose 2g (GSM 900 / 1800), it will bring you to O2-UK instead.

Why three disables this function?

- It's because THREE will need to pay O2 for the talk time you used in the 2G networks

What benefits to you for using GSM 900 / 1800?

- 1. Better coverage in some area (In some area, O2 does have a better coverage than THREE, so obviously, you can choose to use THREE / O2 in the debranded / Generic V3x software)

- 2. Better battery life (3g signal does consume more power than the 2g, by staying in the 2g signal means consuming less power and hence, a better battery life)

Moreover, with the firmware we used, it's alway the latest, so I will upgrade the software / firmware inside the phone while I do the debranding. It means your phone will run faster with less software bugs.

I would also like to compare the picture / video quality when I have more time, but I will think the debranded version will give better result cos of the more updated software inside.
